MATTHEW MOLINA
Internship Field: Mechanical Engineering, Automation/Robotics
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Host: Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnik und Automatisierung (IPA)
Location: Stuttgart
Duration: 3 months in summer of 2015
Description: "The overarching project was to assist in the development and design of a human exoskeleton that would be used in an industrial capacity. When I started, I was the third member working underneath our supervisor. I was hired in an open ended capacity because there was question as to the specific needs that would be required of the project within the project. The project was divided into electrical development and mechanical development. My ultimate initial responsibility was to assist in the mechanical development under the wing of another student worker."
Comments: "I learned a lot of skills that are crucial to being a mechanical engineer. This was the first opportunity I had with a project that I personally was excited about (and without the feeling of being “assigned”), and it confirmed my desire to do further work in this field. It has also, in hindsight, greatly improved my resume and job application process by providing a very unique experience about which I can talk about."
