BEN DUNCAN
Internship Field: Vehicle Construction, Mechanical Engineering
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Host: Volkswagen AG
Location: Wolfsburg
Duration: June – September 2007
Description: I analyzed an experiment in which torques were applied to the steering wheel in certain rates and amplitudes. My goal was to “data mine” and to search for patterns within the data and for important variables that were strongly connected with the drivers’ perceptions of how strong the fault was. I also was able to get involved with other experiments, and to see what other people were doing.
Comments: I certainly acquired a much better understanding of MATLAB, which is necessary as an engineer. This would certainly be the main skill that I learned.
German language skills: Constant German, except when I spoke to my boss about technical matters, which needed to be in English for me. Otherwise, I tried to speak German all the time.
